Female Divorce in The Context of Gender and The Evaluation of The Social Dimension of Divorce By Women
Abstract
Divorce is an event that affects society, especially families, from past to present. The legal, psychological, social, economic, etc. of divorces increasing day by day. As well as many reasons, the consequences of divorce appear in more than one area. Considering the cultural and environmental effects, women come first among the groups affected by divorce. There are various gender roles that people experience by seeing from the household they were born in and then reflect on the family structure they have established. Some of the situations that determine the position of women in terms of gender are that women are mostly identified with domestic roles and responsibilities, the role of caregiver is mostly given to the mother, and women are exposed to non-egalitarian attitudes and behaviors in business life. As a matter of fact, the social dimension of the problems that women have experienced with divorce, which is also the subject of the study, is closely related to gender. Examining the situations that women are exposed to and the social problems they experience in the post-divorce period and making suggestions are among the objectives of this study. In this direction, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the divorced participants residing in various provinces, based on the qualitative research technique; The social aspect of the problem areas experienced by women in the period after divorce was tried to be determined. Some of the participants in the study stated that after the divorce, their free time outside the home was shortened, they kept their conversations with the opposite sex limited, they were afraid to enter an environment alone or they wasolate themselves from that environment, and they preferred to hide their marital status at work. A small number of participants stated that there was no change in their social life after the divorce. Again, the participants also stated that as women, they experience divorce differently from their ex-wives.
